Prince’s Trust Seeks New Volunteers

by isleofman.com 13th December 2011
The Prince’s Trust in the Isle of Man is seeking to recruit community spirited individuals who are keen to play their part in helping disadvantaged young people. The charity has been active in the Island for the past 25 years, and is aiming to strengthen its presence and impact by attracting a new intake of volunteers. The local committee is particularly interested in welcoming young people willing to support those of a similar age who may be experiencing challenges in their lives. Volunteers help the Prince’s Trust to provide a range of innovative programmes designed to assist 16 to 25-year-olds who have struggled at school, have been in care, are long-term unemployed, or have been in trouble with the law. The charity offers practical and financial assistance, and seeks to develop the key workplace skills, confidence and motivation to enable young people to move into employment, education or training. One of the main channels of support provided in the Isle of Man is the Prince’s Trust Development Award scheme, which helps eligible individuals by providing a grant of up to ?500. Among other things, a Development Award can be used to: • buy clothes for a job interview or new job • cover fees for a training course • fund childcare costs to help young people attend a college course • buy equipment, materials or tools • pay for travel costs to a work placement, training course or job Committee Chairman Robin James said: ‘Working with the Prince’s Trust in the Isle of Man provides a tremendous opportunity to put something back into the community and to help our young people to flourish. He added: ‘People from all backgrounds and walks of life are urged to get in touch as we welcome ideas, advice and support from different perspectives. This charity is all about helping young people, so we are especially keen to have young people on our committee. As well as assisting others, volunteering with the Prince’s Trust can be personally rewarding in terms of meeting new people and gaining hands-on experience of working in the third sector.’ For further information about joining the Prince’s Trust in the Isle of Man, or to apply for a Development Award, please contact Robin James on 495380 or Voirrey Kennaugh on 686057.
