Lloyds TSB colleagues recently raised ?1,000 for the Isle of Man Hyperbaric Medical Facility, after holding a month of dress down Fridays in October. Operated by the Kevin Gray Memorial Trust, the Hyperbaric Chamber received the generous donation by Lloyds TSB following the charity’s campaign to raise awareness and funds towards the worthwhile cause.
Sophie Clarke, Flow Leader in Offshore PhoneBank, explained: “I enjoyed visiting the Hyperbaric Chamber as I always wondered what it was like inside. I was surprised to see people sitting in there reading and listening to their iPods as I thought it would be dark inside and they would be lying down. I was extremely impressed with the amount of different medical problems it could help with including burns. It really opened my eyes and I had an enjoyable experience.”
The Hyperbaric Chamber currently features two Multiplace hyperbaric chambers – functioning to provide hyperbaric oxygen therapy for divers as well as treat injured patients and those suffering from chronic medical conditions.
Pieter Cloete also gave his thoughts on the medical facility: “As Treasurer of the Lloyds TSB Charity Committee one does not always get the opportunity to meet with the people and interact with the very many charities we help. I felt extremely privileged to have had the opportunity to meet Claire from the Hyperbaric Chamber and to see the good work they do. Whilst the facility was smaller than what I anticipated, there is absolutely no doubt about the invaluable work undertaken. Looking into the oxygen chambers, I could see just how needed the facility is for the Manx people. As educational and humbling an experience, as what it was, I had a great deal of fun and hope that the rest of our community can help support the facility in order to keep it running for many years to come.”
