Christmas is often a good time for reflection and refocus. As we come to the end of 2011, we are proud that the Isle of Man remains a strong and important part of the world economy, having developed a reputation as a competitive and enterprising country with a long-standing commitment to global standards.
Amid a backdrop of international turmoil in many countries, the Isle of Man has become the business centre of choice for a wide array of emerging sectors thanks to our fair and competitive corporate tax system, committed workforce, sound financial regulation and world-class telecoms infrastructure. Innovation has been a key feature of this recent success, with the public and private sectors working in close partnership to break new ground and ensure the Isle of Man stands above its competitor jurisdictions.
It is a privilege for me to serve as Minister for the Department of Economic Development and support the efforts in attracting quality new business and in supporting existing businesses needed to drive forward our economy. The Department of Economic Development will continue to spearhead the drive to enhance the Isle of Man’s position as a world-class international business centre with, at its core, a renewed focus on economic diversification and a commitment to make the Island even more attractive to investors.
I would like to thank all those who have worked so cooperatively with us over the last year and very much look forward to the continued spirit of collaboration, innovation and ‘can do’ approach that I know will continue to deliver results next year. I wish everyone all the best for this festive period and a happy and prosperous new year!
