Preventing Fuel and Metal Thefts Over Christmas/New Year

by isleofman.com 22nd December 2011
Police are asking that the Public are extra vigilant at this time of year in relation to criminals attempting to steal items such as heating oil, vehicle fuel and metal items with scrap value. The Isle of Man Constabulary have conducted targeted operations and made arrests in relation to persons committing these types of offences. The Constabulary are working closely with other agencies and together we are actively targeting offenders. Police are asking the Public to report any suspicious activity, especially over the holiday period. Detective Sergeant 21 Gavin Callow from the Pro Active Team said “In the past varied items such as vehicle fuel, heating oil, metal gates and even overhead electrical cables have been targeted. I would ask that the public help us to make sure these types of crimes are prevented. Over the Christmas and New Year period building sites and other working areas can be quieter making them more attractive to criminals. These areas will be subject to increased police patrols. if you see something that you think is suspicious such as a van or car that does not normally frequent an area or just looks out of place note the registration and let the police know. We wish everyone a happy Christmas and new year” ENDS
