Sayle Gallery Exhibition - 'Drawings', 13 January - 5 February 2012

by isleofman.com 3rd January 2012
‘Drawings’ – A new and exciting exhibition at the Sayle Gallery offers a rare look at the creative process Seventeen local artists are exhibiting drawings and sketches at the Sayle Gallery’s first exhibition of 2012 which opens on Friday 13 January, giving visitors a unique insight into how these artists turn their initial thoughts into final, finished, artworks. Although drawing itself is a fundamental activity of any visual artist, many artists prefer to keep their early sketches and initial ideas to themselves. In this exhibition, some drawings are themselves the final image, but others are ‘works in progress’: familiar artists more usually known for their watercolours or oil paintings, or whose abstracts seem to be a long way from identifiable, representational forms, are exhibiting sketches – which often follow the dictionary definition of ‘drawing’ as a picture drawn with pencil or pen - showing how their finished works are developed. But ‘drawing’ can also mean to make a mark – and some of the artists in this exhibition have interpreted this to be more than making a simple line and have used blobs, splatters and other means to develop their initial thoughts and ideas. The Sayle Gallery artists featured in this exhibition have produced drawings which reveal the bones of their finished work, and at the same time introduce viewers to the various elements of the creative process. This exciting exhibition runs until Sunday 5 February, and all works are for sale. Artists featured in this exhibition are Jelena Benson, Vicki Blackburn, Andrea Byrne, David Byrne, Carola Colley, Nancy Corkish, Colleen Corlett, James Duggan, Gill Dyer, Myra Gilbert, Eric Glithero, Peter Hearsey, Gillian Hinds, Andrea Jeavons, Cas Powles, Rosi Robinson and Eileen Schaer. ‘Drawings’ is at the Sayle Gallery from Friday 13 January – Sunday 5 February 2012 Location: The Sayle Gallery, Villa Marina Arcade, 1-3 Harris Promenade, Douglas, IM1 2HN Opening times: 10am – 5pm Tue – Sat, 1.30 – 4.30pm Sundays, 1pm – 5pm Mondays Admission: FREE Telephone: 01624 674557 ENDS
