Criminal Damage – Governors Hill

by isleofman.com 4th January 2012
The Police are currently investigating two incidents of criminal damage that occurred in the Stanley Mews area of Governors Hill, Douglas, both of which are being treated as linked. The first incident occurred overnight on New Year’s Eve where a paint stripping substance was poured over the roof and bonnet of a blue Ford Focus motorcar, which was parked and unattended within the communal area of Stanley Mews. The owner of the car only discovered the damage on New Year’s day. The damage caused to the motor vehicle was clearly pre-meditated. The second incident occurred on Tuesday 3rd January at around 11.45am, where an object was thrown though the front window of a terraced house on Stanley Mews. The object used to smash the window is a large rock that may have been taken from a local residents garden prior to the attack. None of the occupants of the house were injured but were shaken and upset. Detective Sergeant Darren RICHARDS stated “Both of these two incidents have occurred in the same area and within three days of each other which appears more than a mere coincidence and I am treating them as linked. The person who damaged the car must have obtained the product to cause the damage from somewhere. I am looking to the community for help to identify where this substance has come from.” During the second incident where the window was smashed a large rock was used, this may have been removed from a local residents garden. “If any residents from the area are missing a rock from their garden or have noticed anyone in the vicinity that is unfamiliar to the area or saw anyone acting in a suspicious manner at around 11.45am on Tuesday 3rd January 2012,then I would urge you to contact the police.” “My main priority is to prevent any further damage and to reassure the local residents but I need the public’s help to identify who the person responsible is. If you know who is responsible then I appeal to your conscience and ask that you contact the police either directly or anonymously through crimestoppers.” House to house enquires are being undertaken and a police presence will be maintained in the area for public reassurance.
