If you have time to spare and have thought about getting involved with charity work, why not become a volunteer with St John Ambulance?
The Island’s leading life-saving charity offers a wide range of services to the community, from being a comforting presence at public events to running a diverse range of courses and recruiting, training and equipping community first responders.
‘You don't have to wear a uniform or operate as a first aider to be part of St John Ambulance – we also need support in a wide range of other areas such as fundraisers, clerical officers, marketing and PR assistance and many more,’ said Phil Bennett, Commercial Development Officer.
‘Whatever skills you have to offer and however little time you might be able to commit, we would be pleased to hear from you,’ Phil said. ‘We rely on voluntary help and we offer a friendly welcome to anyone wishing to get involved with our work.’
A pathway unit has been established, meeting on Monday evenings, and this offers basic training in first aid and other aspects of St John Ambulance to interested over-18s. When volunteers graduate from the unit, they can decide which aspect of the charity’s work they wish to get involved with.
An information meeting for potential volunteers will take place at St John Ambulance headquarters, Glencrutchery Road, Douglas, on Monday 30th January at 7.30pm.
Those who have attended training courses and expressed an interest on feedback forms in getting involved in the work of St John Ambulance will be invited along but the meeting is open to everyone.
