George Campbell has declared his candidacy for the local authority elections in April, for Murrays Ward, in Douglas Corporation. George, 32, lives in Westminster Drive in the town and is employed by Alliance & Leicester International as their Community Affairs Manager. He is heavily involved in a number of local charities which resulted in him being a finalist in the 2010 Isle of Man Excellence Awards for Volunteer of the Year. Commenting on his election ambitions George said “I have for a number of years had a very keen interest in politics, particularly those that affect every day people like myself. For the last two and a half years I have attended many of the monthly public council meetings as an observer from the public gallery and feel that now the time is right to progress further and seek election to the corporation. Observing proceedings has given me an insight as to the matters the council have to deal with and I feel confident that I have the right skills to represent the ratepayer going forward. I hope that by declaring my intentions early will allow me to seek the views of the constituents in Murrays Ward to ensure I have full understanding of their needs come April.” ENDS
