Making a Christmas Wish Helps Children’s Charity

by isleofman.com 12th January 2012
Making a Christmas wish helped to raise more than ?900 for The Children’s Centre’s Out2Play scheme which provides free, open access play sessions across the Island during school holidays. The charity created a ‘Wish Wall’ at The Strand Shopping Centre made up of boxes created by school children.

Using kits supplied by The Children’s Centre youngsters made Wish Wall boxes with Christmas wishes to Santa written on them. Children were asked to make wishes not just for themselves but also for those in need. Once they had made the boxes children did good deeds for their parents in return for a donation to The Children’s Centre. The boxes were then used to create a Christmas tree design at the shopping centre. Michelle O’Malley, Fundraising Manager at The Children's Centre, said:

“We want to say a big thank you to everyone who supported the Wish Wall project, especially The Strand Shopping Centre and the four schools which took part - Fairfield, Anagh Coar, Onchan and Bunscoill Ghaelgagh. The children had a lot of fun making the Wish Wall boxes and they and their parents and grandparents were proud to see their artwork on display. The money raised will make a valuable contribution in helping to support our Out2Play schemes during school holidays, which in 2011 were attended by more than 4,000 children.”
