Isle of Man Continues Seeking Expressions of Interest for 5* Hotel and Casino Complex

by isleofman.com 16th January 2012
The Isle of Man’s Department of Economic Development has reached the halfway stage in its process of seeking expressions of interest from organisations interested in helping establish the Island’s first five star hotel and casino complex. The Department recognises that a top class casino is the next step to furthering the Isle of Man’s position as an international hub in the gaming industry, where market demand remains high. It also announces to remaining interested parties that they have until 31st January 2012 to declare their interest. With the development creating many jobs in the construction and leisure industry, the hotel and casino will present an excellent opportunity to provide seasoned gamers and tourists alike with a first class experience on the Isle of Man. The lack of gaming duty on terrestrial casinos and no limit on the number of slot machines is expected to help potentially interested parties. Commenting on the on-going invitation for expressions of interest, John Shimmin MHK Minister for Department of Economic Development, commented: ‘We have been pleased with the number of interesting responses we have received to date, but with the deadline of 31st January 2012 looming, we urge other parties who may wish to seize on the opportunity to get in touch. The Isle of Man feels that the time is right to diversify its dynamic and growing economy through the establishment of a permanent hotel and casino resort, providing a further location for gaming activities for residents and visitors alike.’ Also commenting on the invitation, Tim Craine, Director, Department of Economic Development, said: ‘The Isle of Man offers a unique location for a top-class hotel and spa leisure complex and securing a prominent new high quality facility for the Island’s many leisure and business visitors will be an asset for our economy. We hope that development of a new hotel and casino will be a catalyst for growing visitor business on the Island through the next decade.’ Tenders submitted will involve consideration by the Department of Economic Development who will be liaising with Global Betting and Gaming Consultants (CBGC) and the Island’s Gambling Supervision Commission. The Government is happy to arrange meetings with representatives of interested parties to answer any queries. The Isle of Man Government is dedicated to producing the optimal environment for business to succeed.
