Ramsey RNLI Lifeboat Assists Injured Fisherman

by isleofman.com 18th January 2012
The volunteer crew of Ramsey’s Mersey class RNLI lifeboat, the RNLB Ann and James Ritchie, were paged at 09:55am (Wednesday 18th January) to go to the assistance of an injured member of crew from a local fishing vessel. The fishing vessel, which was unable to enter Ramsey Harbour because of tidal conditions, was waiting just off the harbour entrance, within sight of the lifeboat station. The lifeboat was launched and arrived quickly alongside the fishing vessel. The casualty, who had sustained an amputated thumb in an incident whilst working with the fishing gear, was rapidly transferred to the lifeboat. The lifeboat then turned around and made all haste back to Ramsey Beach where the station’s shore crew were standing by, ready to recover the lifeboat. The conscious and walking casualty was taken off the lifeboat and transferred to an awaiting ambulance at the top of the RNLI slip. The injured fisherman was assessed and stabilised by ambulance paramedics and transferred to Nobles Hospital. The lifeboat returned to station. EndS
