Five MHKs - including three Government Ministers - have signed up to take part in a charity abseil to raise funds for The Children’s Centre. Community, Culture and Leisure Minister Tim Crookall MHK, Environment, Food and Agriculture Minister Phil Gawne MHK, and Treasury Minister Eddie Teare MHK will be joined on the charity challenge by MHKs Laurence Skelly and Kate Beecroft.
The politicians will take on the Island’s highest indoor abseil from the top floor of The Strand shopping centre - a height of 60 feet - at 11am on Saturday January 28, and shoppers are being urged to go along and support their fundraising efforts. Mr Skelly said:
“We are all greatly looking forward to the sponsored abseil at The Strand centre. It should be an exciting if slightly scary experience for us, but for a worthy good cause. On behalf of the MHKs and The Strand centre, please come along and support the event.”
In November last year The Children’s Centre raised more than ?1,500 by hosting a charity abseil at the shopping centre. In that event members of The Children’s Centre’s Mobex team were on hand to make sure everyone got down safely, and the Mobex team will also be instructing the Ministers and MHKs in their fundraising event.
Mark Eastham, Fundraising Co-ordinator for The Children’s Centre, thanked the five politicians for taking part and added that he hoped lots of shoppers would go along to support them on the day.
