New Air Route To Oxford

by isleofman.com 19th January 2012
Manx2.com announced today it will launch a brand new route - from the Isle of Man to London Oxford Airport - effective 8 May, 2012. Seats are now on sale through Manx2.com’s website (www.manx2.com) from ?49.95 single. Flights, to be operated daily by British Aerospace Jetstream 31 aircraft, will depart from Isle of Man Ronaldsway at 10:55, arriving in London Oxford just one hour later. Oxford departures will be at 15:15, arriving on the Island at 16:25.

The service will connect directly through Oxford on to Manx2’s Jersey service, giving an easy seven day a week connection between the two Crown Dependencies.

With a history stretching back 1,000 years, Oxford is renowned as one of the most beautiful cities in the UK, home to a wealth of architectural, historical and cultural attractions, not least home to the oldest university in the English speaking world. It is less than an hour’s drive to London’s West End and offers easy access to the nearby Cotswolds, Blenheim Palace, Silverstone motor racing circuit, Bicester shopping village, Stratford-upon-Avon and Henley on Thames. These attractions have made Oxford the third most visited city in the UK, after the capitals of Edinburgh and London.

Oxford’s award-winning airport boasts a state-of-the-art new passenger terminal with convenient and affordable parking. Rental cars can also be booked from the airport. It offers good access to the M40 motorway and Heathrow airport and with a new local rail station at Kidlington opening early in 2013 providing access to the mainline rail network at London's Marylebone for the first time, the airport terminal will be accessible from London in less than an hour via public transport.

“Since we launched Manx2 six years ago, the feedback we get repeatedly from customers is that they love to use the smaller, easy-to-use regional airports,” said Manx2.com Managing Director Dave Buck. “We are thus tremendously excited to be launching this new air route from the Isle of Man to London Oxford. Many people are getting frustrated by the queues, hassle and delays at the big hub airports. Our business is all about convenience, getting passengers where they want to be, with the minimum of fuss.”

“Given the loss of the Island’s Heathrow link and recent cuts in services to Luton and Birmingham, London Oxford will be a very attractive addition to the Island’s route network,” he added. “It sits halfway between London and the UK’s industrial centre in the Midlands; and the Thames Valley region generally is the highest ranked region for high-tech services in the whole European Union.”

Welcoming the new route, Department of Economic Development Minister, John Shimmin MHK, said: ‘It’s very pleasing to see Manx2.com’s continued growth both on and off Island. Adding London Oxford Airport to its route network will allow Isle of Man companies better access to the region; will facilitate invaluable inbound opportunities for tourism and for companies who recognise the benefits of doing business in the Isle of Man.’

Manx2.com was set up in 2006 to provide convenient flights to easy-to-access regional airports, so that customers could avoid the congestion, delays and frequent queues at the major UK hubs. It currently offers services on seven routes between the Isle of Man and Blackpool, Belfast City, Leeds, Gloucester (M5), Anglesey and Newcastle, as well as a connection between Anglesey and Cardiff.
