Jo Thomas, former Head of Children’s Safeguarding at the Isle of Man Government’s Department of Social Care, has joined The Children’s Centre as Practice Director. She is now based at the charity’s Woodbourne Road centre in Douglas, and her primary role is to provide line management and supervision of five services which the charity provides for Government - Family Centres, Supervised Child Contact Centre, Fostering, Outreach and Residential care.
Jo has worked with children and their families for more than thirty years, both as a Social Worker and Social Work Manager, and she brings a wealth of experience to further develop The Children’s Centre’s wide range of social care work. John Knight, Chief Executive of The Children’s Centre, said that Jo’s appointment would enable the charity to enhance its status as a centre of excellence. He added:
“Jo’s arrival triggers a slightly reorganised approach to managing the charity as she will join Debi Michelson and I in developing a new ‘strategic leadership’ team. The creation of this team serves several purposes - to keep an ongoing overview of the charity’s work, and also to plan ahead and drive forward development plans for new services or the further development of existing services.”
Jo Thomas said she was delighted to have joined the Island’s leading charity for families and children and commented:
“The new role of Practice Director has been created to support both social work practice and the charity’s delivery of excellence in its services to Government. In a wider context, the role also allows me to add my experience to The Children’s Centre’s senior team to further develop the charity and its range of services.”
