Miss Kristina Crawford, Assistant to the Head of Sixth Form at St Ninian’s High School, has been selected as one of sixty Global Poverty Ambassadors from across the British Isles in 2012. As a result she has been invited to attend the 2012 Global Poverty Ambassador launch with Bill Gates and Hans Rosling hosted by the London School of Economics on Wednesday 25th January. The main event will be streamed live on the internet from 1.30-2.30pm at http://globalpovertyproject.com/pages/launch and then will be available to watch on-demand hours later.
Kristina will subsequently attend a training weekend in February so that she can deliver the world-class multimedia presentation 1.4 Billion Reasons. http://globalpovertyproject.com/pages/presentation. It is designed to explain why an end to extreme poverty is possible and is built around five questions:
- What is extreme poverty?
- Can we do anything about it?
- What are the barriers to ending extreme poverty?
- Why should we care?
- What can we do?
Based on leading research, and endorsed by development and economics experts, 1.4 Billion Reasons can be customised to suit the needs of any audience.
Simon Moss, co-founder of the Global Poverty Project, launched the initiative on the Island in March 2011 in conjunction with the One World Centre. He delivered 1.4 Billion Reasons to the public at the Manx Museum and to 6th Form students in schools across the Island.
Kristina now looks forward to being able to deliver 1.4 Billion Reasons to an even wider audience over the coming year: “I am so excited to have this opportunity, and can hardly believe that I’m going to be meeting Bill Gates tomorrow. I can’t wait to begin giving the presentation!”
Rosemary Clarke, Director of the One World Centre, says “Kristina will make a great ambassador, and I look forward to working with her over the next 12 months.”
