Guardians of Island Heritage Are Sought

by isleofman.com 26th January 2012

THE Council of Ministers is seeking to appoint individuals to act as guardians of the Isle of Man’s unique heritage and cultural assets.

Applications are currently being invited from members of the public who are interested in becoming Trustees of Manx National Heritage (Manx Museum and National Trust).

MNH is the independent statutory body which promotes, protects and preserves the Island’s natural and cultural heritage.

As well as operating 11 museum sites, its responsibilities also include managing areas of natural beauty and ecological significance, protecting national monuments, controlling archaeological investigations, maintaining national archives, and collecting and displaying important examples of art.

MNH is governed by trustees who make a valuable contribution to its many activities by virtue of their knowledge, experience and expertise.

Chief Minister Allan Bell MHK said: ‘Manx National Heritage plays an important part in Island life, not only in terms of protecting our rich history, but also by making a valuable contribution to our national economy.

‘Its award-winning sites and attractions help to strengthen the Manx identity and provide the local community with opportunities for enjoyment, learning and development. The calibre of MNH’s trustees is vital to its continued success and I would urge people who feel they possess the necessary skills to take up a position to submit an application.’

A comprehensive information pack, which includes details of the role profile and person specification, is available together with an application form at http://www.gov.im/cso/publicappointments/

Forms can be completed and submitted online. Alternatively, printed versions can be obtained from the Chief Secretary’s Office, Government Office, Bucks Road, Douglas, IM1 3PN, telephone 01624 685711 or email publicappointments@cso.gov.im

Appointments are for a period of up to five years and are subject to the approval of Tynwald.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Monday, February 20.
