Douglas Borough Council has launched a website dedicated to the new Douglas and Braddan kerbside collection service.
The site, http://recycle.douglas.gov.im, has been set up in support of the service which began on November 1, 2011 and is operated by the Council and funded jointly with Braddan Commissioners. The two local authorities resolved to continue the kerbside collection of recyclables after the three-year government-funded operation, then in partnership also with Onchan Commissioners, ended on October 31, 2011.
Created in-house by the Council’s ICT team the new website, which can also be accessed from the Council’s home page, www.douglas.gov.im, will soon allow householders to download collection calendars specific to their address. Meantime the site provides full details of the service, an online directory of recycling information and contact details. A future development will see an email subscription service whereby householders can receive an email reminder of their collection day and, should there be sufficient demand, text message alerts.
The Council’s chairman of public works Councillor David Ashford said: ‘The creation of this new website is a practical demonstration of the joint commitment of Douglas Borough Council and Braddan Commissioners to render the kerbside collection service user-friendly and easily accessible to households. Additionally, from a wider perspective, it reflects the work the Council is progressing to make its online offering more customer-focused and to introduce a greater number of self-service functions.’
For households without access to the internet details of the service, including hard-copy collection calendars, may be obtained by telephoning 696450.
