New Manx Telecom Phone Book Backed by Free directory.im App

by isleofman.com 31st January 2012

2012 Manx Telecom Phone Books are now being distributed across the Island, and for smartphone users who want to access the directory online there’s now a free app for the iPhone .

New for the printed directory in 2012 is a ‘Tried and Trusted’ section featuring established and reliable businesses which have operated for more than 10 years. Many advertisers are now using QR codes to allow customers with smartphones to go straight to a company’s website simply by scanning the code. Inside the phone book there are also details of all of Manx Telecom’s products and services, useful, emergency and advice numbers, plus tips on problem solving, and ways to make the most of mobile and broadband services.

directory.im - the online version of the phone book - also has a new look, an improved search engine and allows advertisers to list their own business and update their own advertising. The free directory.im iPhone app gives instant access to 4,500 local businesses, and the ability to call businesses direct with a single click. The app provides search results displayed on a map along with walking and driving directions to local attractions. With the app it’s also easy to save business details to your contacts list or share it with colleagues or friends. To download the app simply go to www.directory.im or Apple app store.

Andrew Honour, Manx Telecom Commercial Manager, said that the printed directory is still popular, but more and more customers are using directory.im via the new app to access numbers on the move. He said:
“The printed directory and directory.im are designed to complement each other and provide for the needs of all our customers - whether they are at home or on the move. The increasing use of QR codes in the printed directory is a great example of how technology is enhancing not just the online directory, but also the traditional phone book. There is a demand for both versions, and we will continue to look at ways to improve how our customers can access the information they need.”
If you want your old phone book to be recycled, one phone book per household can be left with kerbside recycling collections where they apply. As an alternative, residential customers can use the recycling skips available at the Island’s civic amenity sites. Manx Telecom is also providing phone book recycling collection points at both its Head Office reception, Isle of Man Business Park, and at its store in Strand Street, Douglas.

The new phone books feature Manx Telecom’s new logo and brand image which was introduced in autumn 2011. The cover photo - taken at The Sound by Simon Park - is of a Manx Telecom van complete with the new livery and logo. Manx Independent Carriers brought the printed phone books to the Island and 61,500 copies are being delivered to Island households and businesses by PDC, the sixth year the company has been given the task by Manx Telecom.
