Barclays Wealth in the Isle of Man has recently strengthened its team of treasury professionals with the appointments of Karen Kong and Peter Downey.
Karen joins Barclays Wealth as part of the Central Treasury Team after relocating to the Island from Shanghai last year. She was employed by Hang Seng Bank for over two years in Shanghai and Hong Kong before joining Barclays Wealth and brings a good all-round knowledge of the banking industry. In her new role Karen will be working with intermediary clients across various jurisdictions, providing assistance with foreign exchange and money market transactions.
In addition, Peter Downey has recently joined the Treasury team as Vice President of Treasury and FX. Peter has worked in Treasury for over 10 years and relocated to the Island from Dublin where he worked for Bank of Ireland for nine years. He will be managing a portfolio of local and international corporate and intermediary and assisting with foreign exchange treasury services, money market deposits and treasury investments. A large proportion of Peter’s time will be spent meeting with clients and discussing their treasury and foreign exchange needs.
Head of Treasury, Peter Sutton said: ‘I am delighted to welcome Karen and Peter to the Isle of Man Treasury team. They bring with them a wealth of experience which will complement the existing team and enhance our capabilities. These are integral hires for our business which will help us to continue to work closely with our clients to help deliver first class service.”
As the Treasury team welcomes Karen and Peter, its longest serving member of staff has retired. Les Williamson joined Barclays in 1978 in Bradford. He moved to the Isle of Man in 1994 to undertake a role in the Treasury team, of which he has since been an integral part. During his time with the organisation, Les has seen the team expand significantly to become one of the biggest dealing rooms outside of London.
Les said: ‘My entire career has been with Barclays Wealth and it has been a very supportive and enjoyable organisation to work for. I have seen major changes in the time that I have been a member of the Isle of Man team and I am very proud to have played a role in it.’
Les has retired early to enjoy time with his wife touring the UK and Europe in their motorhome and is looking forward to having more time for his hobbies, playing guitar and fishing.
Peter Sutton continued: ‘I am very sorry to see Les leave the team, he has brought an energy and enthusiasm which will be hard to replicate. His dedication and commitment over the years has no doubt played a major part in the expansion and success of the business and I would personally like to thank him for this. He will be missed by the team and we wish him a long and happy retirement.’
