Bree Manx music youth group are holding a fiddle school and folk band workshop on Saturday 18 February at Douglas Youth Arts Centre from 10am till 4pm.
Leading fiddle player and teacher Katie Lawrence (from local bands The Fecktones and Scammylt) will teach violinists about technique and performance skills, while other young musicians will do group work with a view to forming new bands to take part in the Manx Folk Awards at the end of March. The workshop day will conclude with an informal concert for family and friends at 3pm.
The Fiddle School and Band Camp workshops are open to musicians aged 10 and over (school years 6 to 13) who are competent on their instrument. The event is free of charge, but students must sign up in advance using the application form available from Dr Chloe Woolley at: manxmusicspecialist@mhf.org.im
Organised by the Manx Heritage Foundation music team, Bree welcomes all young musicians, singers and dancers interested in Manx traditional culture. They meet for informal music sessions each month, hold regular workshops, perform at community events and busk for local charities. If you’d like more information on Bree or the Manx Folk Awards, please contact Chloe Woolley by email or on 695787.
