Peel and Castletown Regional Synthetic Pitches Closed for Floodlight Repairs

by isleofman.com 3rd February 2012
As part of the regular five year cycle of inspections, this week the Departmental of Community, Culture and Leisure’s electrical installations engineers undertook inspections of the floodlights at the three regional synthetic pitches.

Unfortunately, the inspections at the pitches at Castletown and Peel have revealed problems that have potential safety implications.  Until such time as the problems can be resolved, the floodlights cannot be used and accordingly all evening activities have been cancelled.

Andy Varnom, Head of Sport and Recreation, said: ‘The Department apologises for the closure but I am sure that customers will recognise that safety of the public is paramount. All customers with bookings have been contacted.’

It is likely that remedial works will take around 3 weeks and staff will work with customers to minimise the disruption to sporting programmes as far as possible.

The regional pitch at Ramsey and the outdoor facilities at the NSC and Bowl are unaffected; and the Castletown and Peel pitches continue to be available during the daytime and when floodlights are not required.
