Gough Advocates is delighted to announce that Helen Gough, daughter of the firm’s founding partner Alan Gough, has been made an Associate of the firm further to her admittance to the Manx Bar.
Helen, who was educated at King Williams College, entered the legal profession in 2001 when she decided to pursue an LLB Honours Degree in Law with the Open University. By following the part-time distance learning format Helen was able to work and gain experience at Gough Advocates as a paralegal. On completion of her degree in 2008, Helen attended the College of Law in Chester where she obtained her Legal Practice Certificate (LPC) before returning to Gough Advocates as a trainee, articled to her father.
During her two year training period Helen carried out four, six-month “seats” of work experience within the Commercial, Private Client, Fiduciary and Litigation departments of the firm.
Helen describes her training and qualifying period;
“Studying for the LLB through the Open University was very challenging, especially in conjunction with a full-time job! However, ultimately it was rewarding as it allowed me to put my learning into a practical context along the way. As Gough Advocates is a boutique, yet highly ranked, firm I was given hands-on experience with complex matters which made my training period intense yet exciting. I am very grateful to Gough Advocates for all the support and supervision they have given me.”
Managing Director of the firm Paul Kerruish said;
“Helen has shown tremendous work ethic, adaptability and diligence during her years of study and training which will serve her well during her career as an advocate. She joins the firm at an exciting time and I look forward to working with her to further develop her advocacy skills and experience.”
Her father said;
“Helen’s swearing in ceremony was a very proud moment for me. She deserves her success.”
