Anglo Manx Electrical - 24 vs DQ Hurricanes - 41 (by Alice Danes)
As forecast in the predications Anglo Manx were not going to let 'Top of the Table' DQ Hurricanes go unchallenged. Determination shone through within the first 5 mins as Netty Mooney (C) darted from attack to defence to ensure a quick progression through the court. Unfortunately the goals were not materialising fast enough and DQ took full advantage as Dani Kelly (GS) failed to miss a shot during the 1st quarter. Things were still close during the 2nd quarter as DQ managed to hold Anglo at bay through some excellent court play by Rebecca Harding (C) & Nikki Jarvis (WD). Anglo's combined defence worked well and Helen Warner (GK) was able to pick up a number of rebounds, keeping Anglo in the game. The 3rd quarter was much the same as Anglo tried different ways to break down DQ's attack but Harding was a crucial link for DQ and dominated the mid-court area. Lisa Fitzgerald (GA) showed tremendous ball control during the 3rd quarter, created chances for Sarah Kewley (GS) who converted a number of excellent goals. Anglo just didn't manage to finish what they started as DQ thundered ahead with some fabulous shooting by Kelly, leaving them to collect the full 4 points.
PoTM: Dani Kelly (Team DQ); Lisa Fitzgerald (Anglo Manx)
C&S Joinery B vs pwc Manx Gems Rubies (by Claire Belcher-Smith)
This game started very even with C&S and Rubies matching goal for goal. Trudi Halsall converting some lovely shots from all around the circle making it frustrating for the C&S defence. Midcourt players were very evenly matched throughout with Amy Lowe and Voirrey Collister battling out every loose ball. C&S took control in the second half. Their defensive duo, Ellan Charmer and Lucy Titley proved unstoppable, with Charmer making continuous interceptions, plucking every ball from mid air. Although out of position, Charmer was called to the circle and found success, which made it all the more frustrating for the Rubies girls as all 3 shooters for C&S were on form. There was a lot of hard work from Jess Hawkins and Stacey Staines which didn’t go unnoticed forcing the C&S girls to work harder. The scoreline definitely doesn’t reflect how hard the Rubies girls worked, but C&S were definitely the stronger side.
PoTM: Ellan Charmer (C&S Joinery) Christie Morgan (pwc Rubies)
Toomraiders 30 v SMP Ballasalla B 33 (by Marg McGee)
The Toomraiders defence of Carly Singer and Rachel Burge had a great game leaving little space for movement in the circle by the Ballasalla attack and it was only by using steady attacking play in the goal third and good support from the WD and GD that SMP Ballasalla were able to feed the circle. The patient play and accurate overhead feeds in to goalshooter, Kate Tebay were difficult for Toomraiders to counteract and Tebay’s great shooting form was keeping SMP Ballasalla in the game.
The game was within a few goals throughout and could have gone either way. It wasn’t until the final 5 minutes that SMP Ballasalla were able to edge ahead.
PoTM: Carly Craine (Toomraiders); Jane Cowley (SMP B)
