Best Western Palace Hotel & Casino Names Parkinson’s As 2012 Charity

by isleofman.com 9th February 2012

The Isle of Man Parkinson’s Disease Society has been chosen as the BEST WESTERN Palace Hotel & Casino’s charity for 2012.

Each year, staff at the hotel organise a series of fundraising events and choose a local charity to benefit from their efforts. The first confirmed event is an Adele Tribute Night on Saturday March 3rd from 7pm, which will feature songs from the phenomenally successful singer’s hit albums 19 and 21, including ‘Chasing Pavements’ and ‘Someone Like You’.  The evening will include a carvery buffet and will be rounded off by a DJ.

Other potential fundraising events for the forthcoming year include a Midsummer Ball, Race Night and Halloween Party.

Sefton Group Director of Hotels & Leisure Adrian Brockhouse said: ‘The Parkinson’s Society in the Isle of Man is such a worthy cause and does so much important work, both in supporting ongoing research and helping those in the Island who suffer from Parkinson’s disease.

‘As always, our staff have been only too willing to throw themselves into organising a range of superb events. We also need to recognise and say thank you to all of our customers who get involved each year, attending the events and giving generously to boost the amount of money raised.’

Parkinson’s Disease is a progressive neurological illness affecting movement such as walking, talking and writing. The Isle of Man Society was established in 1989 as a Manx-registered charity to support research into the cause of the illness and assist Island residents who suffer from the condition.

Pamela Shimwell-Mayo, founder and Chairman of the Isle of Man Parkinson’s Society, said: ‘We’re delighted that the staff at the hotel have kindly chosen us to be the benefactors of their efforts this year.

‘There are between 400-500 sufferers of Parkinson’s Disease on the Island and it’s vital that we can help those with Parkinson’s, and also their carers, to cope with this on-going condition which at present has no known cure.’
