On Friday 10th February, TT winners Michael Dunlop and Dan Sayle made an unexpected visit to Andreas and Bride Primary Schools. The visit was arranged by three student teachers Jessica West, Sheila McMenamin and Catherine James.
The three students are currently in their second year at Edge Hill University and undertaking an eight week teaching practice at the school. The trio are staying at the Sulby Glen Hotel, where they bumped into Michael. They plucked up the courage to ask him if he would come into Andreas School. Michael was delighted to be asked and immediately agreed to come in the following afternoon along with Dan.
During their time in school they chatted to children about the TT and what motivates and drives them to achieve their goals and ambitions. The ability to set and achieve personal goals is an area of the Personal, Social and Emotional education programme that the school places a strong emphasis on. The children are encouraged to regularly set themselves targets and to review their progress towards them on a regular basis.
The pair also took part in the schools’ Friday afternoon Golden Awards Assembly, where they presented certificates to children for good quality work and positive attitudes, as well as sharing the children’s homework learning logs.
The children all thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and have given an open invitation to both Michael and Dan to return whenever they want.
This visit follows on from last year’s visit by Guy Martin and ITV4, who used footage of their visit as part of their TT 2011 coverage.
