Celton Manx is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the well-known local pipe band, Ellan Vannin Pipes and Drums.
The band was originally formed by a group of enthusiastic pipers in 1984; it was the first of its type to be set up in the Island since the beginning of the First World War.
The band has approximately 12 regular pipers and a drums corps consisting of several snare, tenor and bass drummers. They play regularly throughout the year at a number of community events, private functions and weddings and last September entertained guests at the official opening of the new Celton Manx Global Headquarters, Celton House.
Celton Manx Executive Director, Bill Mummery said: ‘It was fantastic to have Ellan Vannin Pipes and Drums playing at the opening of our new headquarters last year. It was wonderful for our Executive Management Team from Asia to hear traditional Manx music played live by such a talented group of musicians. We are very pleased to be able to support them and their activities this year.’
Acting Pipe Major, Paul Davenport said: ‘Everyone involved with the band is delighted that Celton Manx has agreed to help us out with this sponsorship. As a registered charity the band depends on members’ subscriptions and donations for its income. Upkeep of uniforms, instruments and hire charges for our rehearsal rooms are all seeing increases in costs and the support offered by Celton Manx gives us security going forward.’
