Albany LTC News

by isleofman.com 22nd February 2012

The latest tournament in Albany’s Winter Series commences on Thursday 25 with matches in yellow ball events.

Friday play starts at 12 noon with Yellow and Green ball events and Saturday will see the group matches for Orange and Red ball players. Semi finals and finals will be on Sunday starting at 11am. I recommend that if members have a spare hour they visit the club and watch these young players. You might be surprised as to how good they are.

So far, despite the weather, Albany Mixed Doubles team has completed 3 matches in the Winter League. They and their opponents are to be congratulated on playing in the very cold conditions. This is an outdoor event! Results so far: Castletown 7 Albany 1, with Andy Murray/Michael Travers winning the only Albany set. Albany 5 Kensington Road 3 – Andy/Michael won 2 sets 7/5, 6/2; Frances McDonnell/ Katie Harris won 2 sets  6/4,6/2, Andy/Frances one set 6/0 but only just lost 5/7 in the 2nd set. Albany 3 Castletown 5 – Andy/Michael won 2 sets 6/1,6/0 and Francis/Katie one set 6/4. It looks like Katie Harris who is 12 is taking after brother Billy and becoming a really good player. Well done Katie.

At the moment the club has quite a few bookings for junior Tennis Birthday parties, which include an hour on court followed by tea in the lounge. Parents bring all the party goodies and set up while the children are playing under the guidance of club coach, Ian Watson. They come off court hungry and thirsty and really enjoy their tea. The club has a fully fitted kitchen, including dishwasher, microwave and cooker, plus all the cutlery and crockery that you could possibly need. This is not just a junior only scheme – senior members could also have celebrations on the same lines. Contact Shelby Sandyford-Sykes 430124.

Final reminder for the Isle of Man LTA Presentation Buffet which is on Saturday March 3 at Douglas Golf Club. Contact IOMLTA Secretary Jenny Hedges: jenny@chetv.co.uk

The club has several sponsors and is always looking for more particularly the banners in the indoor court plus league team sponsors. If any member wants more details please contact me on 861497 or ballabreck@manx.net. Also I do hope that members are using the services of our current sponsors – sponsorship is a two-way process.
