Blooming Good Show at Ramsey Primary Schools

by isleofman.com 6th March 2012

Scoill Ree Gorree and Auldyn Infants’ School pupils have once again demonstrated their brilliance with bulbs and submitted their entries in Ramsey Town Commissioners’ annual primary schools’ daffodil bulb competition, now in its 32nd year.

Each year the Commission’s parks department provides pupils with daffodil bulbs, planting compost, a pot and growing instructions. The children then grow their bulbs at home and bring them to school for judging.

Local horticultural expert Pat Goodway and Ramsey Town Commissioners’ newly appointed head gardener Bob Cunningham were faced with a challenging task in their role as competition judges when they visited the two schools on an appropriately spring-like day in early March and were impressed by the pupils’ – and staff members’ – horticultural skills.

Auldyn Infants’ School is the current trophy holder. The results for this year’s competition are expected to be announced towards the end of March or early April.
