Team Oscar Racing have announced their team for the 2012 season. F2 sidecar driver, Debbie Barron, lines up alongside Robert Lunt, road race passenger, and Stephen Cowin, track passenger, as they launch their campaign for the new season. Ex TT passenger Dougie Jewell has also joined the team as Chief Technical Advisor.
The team had a great season in 2011, including coming 2nd in the Open Class at Mallory Park in the Sidecar Festival and racing in the Southern 100, Mallory Park, Donnington Park, Anglesey and Jurby. Being awarded 3rd place in the F2 Drivers Championship by the Andreas Racing Association was the jewel in the crown. Debbie is in the process of obtaining her International licence and Rob his National Licences and, having passed their medicals and already obtaining sufficient signatures, both are now set to get their Mountain Course Licences.
Recently appointed as Manager of the Southern Swimming Pool in Castletown, Debbie has supported the IOM Road races for most of her life. Her dream is to become the first Manx born female 1300cc and F2 driver to complete the TT. Debbie commented: “After marshalling at Ballagarey for 22 years, I would love to swap my orange jacket for my leathers in the 2012 TT. We don’t know yet whether our application will be accepted, or whether we will raise the necessary sponsorship to race, but we are setting our sights high. Being Manx, it would make me so proud to compete in the TT, and I hope that it will help to inspire the next generation of F2 sidecar drivers and passengers. Above all, I hope that it will encourage people to realise that it is never too late to live your dream, no matter what it is, or whether you can be number one at it. So many people never get the chance to follow their dreams so, whether it is to visit a special place, to learn a new skill, to stand on a stage and sing, or to make someone happy, don’t pass up the opportunity – it may not come again.”
