Action Stations in Noble’s Park

by isleofman.com 19th March 2012

It’s ‘action stations’ in Noble’s Park after Douglas Borough Council installed a range of fitness equipment for young people and adults.

The seven action stations are located along a newly defined circuit and have been supplied by SMP Playgrounds Ltd, a UK company specialising in outdoor exercise and play equipment, and installed by local contractors.

The project represents a ?20,000 investment by the Council and complements objectives set out in a Department of Health strategy that seeks to encourage people to adopt healthier lifestyles.

Leisure services committee chairman Councillor Stephen Pitts said: ‘Installing this equipment is part of a programme of investment in Noble’s Park to ensure the Council provides leisure and recreational opportunities for the widest possible audience. Last year we inaugurated the new competition-quality BMX track and resurfaced the tennis courts to provide a multi-sports facility, while this year work is soon to be completed on upgrading the skate park and picnic tables with attached barbecue protection plates are to be sited on the former Tot Lot area.

‘We are also looking at installing similar outdoor fitness stations on Douglas promenade as we are firmly committed to providing accessible exercise and training facilities in our public spaces to help encourage wellbeing and achieve improved health and fitness levels in safe, convivial and natural surroundings.’
