Table Tennis Teams at World Championships

Six table tennis players leave on Friday to represent the Isle of Man in the World Table Tennis Team Championships at Dortmund in Germany.

The event runs from March 24th to April 1st and the Manx teams are spearheaded by Ronan McDonnell (Copy Shop) and Rebecca Bayley (Foxdale) who won the men’s and ladies singles titles in the Island Championships which were held on Saturday.  They are joined on the plane by Paul Corran (Breakaway), Mason McLarney (Ramsey), Jane Coulthurst (Copy Shop) and Maggie Mulhern (Peel.) 

A total of 96 countries are taking part in the men’s competition and 123 in the women’s.  Coach to the Manx teams will be former British and Irish champion Jason Sugrue who is a frequent visitor to the Isle of Man to conduct training sessions with the Island’s leading junior and senior players.  He is flying out from Luton and will link up with the teams in Dortmund
