The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure’s Public Transport Division has announced that a new style bus/rail photo pass for disabled passengers and their registered carer(s) is currently being issued.
This new pass will be valid for five years and holders will be entitled to the same concessions they currently receive. These benefits are:
· Free Travel on scheduled Bus Vannin services after 09:00 Mondays to Fridays and all day on Saturdays, Sundays, and Public/Bank Holidays.
· Half Fare travel on Bus Vannin services up to 09:00 Mondays to Fridays.
· Limited concessions on Friday and Saturday Night Owl `Hullad Oie’ services.
· Free Travel on scheduled services of the Isle of Man Steam Railway.
· Free Travel on scheduled services of the Manx Electric Railway.
· Free Travel on scheduled services of the Snaefell Mountain Railway.
Disabled persons eligible for a free bus pass were informed in February 2012 that they would need to apply for a new pass so that they may continue to enjoy these concessions.
Residents holding a current pass must renew this by the 31st of March 2012.
Failure to carry a valid pass may result in its withdrawal and the passenger being required to pay the appropriate fare.
Photo ID cards can be issued by the Isle of Man Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal between 10.00 and 16.00 from Monday to Friday.
If you have any questions about this scheme, please contact the Welcome Centre on 662525.
The Department of Community, Culture and Leisure offers concessions to assist residents with public transport. On scheduled services for the heritage railways, children under 5 travel for free when accompanied by full fare paying adults. Manx residents aged 60 and over can obtain a free travel pass on both railways and buses. Students travelling to school are entitled to free transport and free travel is also available to the blind and disabled.
