Model Boat Club - Annual Steering Competition at Onchan Park

by isleofman.com 22nd March 2012

The Manx Model Boat Club is holding its first active event for 2012 on the afternoon of Sunday 1st April at the boating lake in Onchan Park. Spectators will be able to observe model boat owners skilfully manoeuvring their radio controlled vessels through a series of challenging nautical navigation hazards, all cunningly devised by the club Commodore.

A wide variety of model vessels take part including fishing boats, tugs, naval vessels and submarines. Ducks, albeit radio controlled ones, have even been known to attempt the course! The aim of the competition is to accumulate the least points. Touching obstacles on the course or making wrong turns all accumulate penalty points. There are three classes for entrants; over 1 metre, under I metre and the mini-class, less than ? metre.

The event is free to watch and visitors are very welcome to come along. However, any person wishing to participate in the competition should, for insurance purposes, be a member of the club. The event will commence on Onchan Park boating lake at 2pm and will continue until around 4:30pm. If the weather is inclement the competition may be postponed until the following weekend.

More information can be obtained by contacting the club secretary mmbc@manx.net or from John Williams, coordinating officer via newsMMBC@wm.im.
