On Saturday the 31st of March 2012, Police and Customs Officers stopped a vehicle at Douglas Seaport alighting the Seacat sailing from Liverpool. On searching the vehicle a quantity of Cannabis was located inside. A 51 year old woman, not local to the Island, was arrested and taken to Police Headquarters for questioning. The amount of Cannabis seized is estimated to have a street value of just under ?140,000.
Detective Constable Anthony Corlett stated:
“During a joint Operation with Customs and Police Officers from the Pro-Active and Dog Unit, a substantial haul of Cannabis was located in a vehicle which had just come off the Seacat from Liverpool. In this case the result is that almost ?140,000 worth of drugs has been prevented from entering the streets of the Island, thanks to the Police and Customs Officers involved. The Police Drugs Detection Dog “Snoopy” and his handler, PC Ray BRONDON, who made the find, stand out for special mention”.
Acting Detective Inspector Steve MADDOCKS who heads up the Unit stated:
“This is another example of the persistence and professionalism of my team and our partners in directly targeting people who look to import controlled drugs to our Island. Drugs have a detrimental effect on our community and our quality of life and we will continue to target criminals involved in this activity. A woman from the Merseyside area appeared at Court on Monday 2nd April 2012 charged with importation and possession of cannabis with intent to supply. The amount seized is considerable and is the single biggest seizure the Island has had to date.
If anyone has any information regarding drugs or other criminal activity, I would urge them to speak to the Police in confidence or use the anonymous Crimestoppers line 0800 555 111”
