Manx Telecom Parish Walk entrants won a range of great prizes in a competition organised by the event’s title sponsor. The names of everyone who entered the walk before April 8 were put into a prize draw to win a smartphone and sports gear.
Holistic therapist Joie Browne, from Douglas, won the top prize - a Sony Xperia Active which has many features and applications for health and fitness enthusiasts, including a MapMYFitness app which offers GPS tracking and can be used to record all the data about training for the walk and log progress on the big day. Three more entrants won prizes provided by Intersport in association with Asics - milkman Stephen Corkill, from Douglas, won a pair of trainers; accountant Anthony Cagney, from Governor’s Hill, won a waterproof jacket; and Colin Clarke, landlord of The Stanley Hotel in Ramsey, won a tee-shirt.
To encourage more walkers to sign up for this year’s event Manx Telecom also promised to refund the entry fee of the 1,000th entrant to register. The lucky winner was Richard Gerrard, from Douglas, who finished third in last year’s race.
Voirrey Barron, Manx Telecom Marketing Communications Manager, and Charlie Turner, Director of Intersport, presented the prizes to the winners at Manx Telecom’s store in Strand Street.
Voirrey said Manx Telecom was delighted that more than 1,000 walkers had already signed up for the event - as of April 17 a total of 1,076* had registered. It is hoped that this year’s Manx Telecom Parish Walk will set a record for the number of entries. The 2011 total of 1,753 is the current record.
