Barclays staff give Groudle Railway a spring clean

by isleofman.com 25th April 2012

Volunteers from Barclays gave Groudle Railway a special spruce-up ahead of its opening for 2012 over the Easter weekend.

19 eager Barclays staff volunteers along with representatives of the Isle of Man Steam Railway Supporters’ Association gathered on the 28 and 30 March to get the project underway. Work was carried out over the two days included painting the outside of the cafe at the Sealion Rocks and the ticket office at the railway entrance.

Barclays organiser Peter Last said: ‘We were delighted that so many people were able to volunteer to come and help with this worthwhile project. The railway is operated entirely by volunteers and so the time that our staff have donated has been gratefully received. The weather on the day was great and some volunteers were even able to top-up their tan while working! We are looking forward to our next community event.’

The work was supervised by Alex Brindley of Groudle Glen Railway who said: ‘I am happy to report that due to the contribution from Barclays, together with the sterling efforts made by their own volunteers, the railway is looking revitalised and ready for the new season.’
