The Mailbox posts cheque to children’s charity

by isleofman.com 30th April 2012

The Mailbox Lounge, Bar, and Grill has been helping The Children’s Centre and the charity’s Community Farm in recent months. Steve Quirk, The Mailbox owner and head chef, presented a cheque for ?1,090 to The Children’s Centre which was raised from donation cards placed on tables at the restaurant.

Staff from The Mailbox also cooked food at the recent Community Farm open days which proved to be incredibly popular with more than 1,100 visitors attending a weekend of fun events. The Mailbox staff prepared snacks and a tasty hog roast for all the visitors to the Community Farm which is at Wallberry Farm on the Carnane Estate off the Old Castletown Road in Douglas. Vegetables grown on the farm have also been used by The Mailbox as part of its commitment to using fresh, locally sourced, produce.

Susie Cox, Community Fundraiser at The Children’s Centre, said:

“Thank you to Steve and everyone at The Mailbox, and their customers, who gave so generously in response to The Children’s Centre charity cards. The Mailbox team also made a valuable contribution to the success of the Community Farm’s open weekend and we hope to work with Steve and his team on more events in the future.”

Susie and other staff members from The Children’s Centre were invited to The Mailbox to collect the cheque and to taste some of the fabulous food on offer at the restaurant as part of a ‘Chef’s Theatre’ event.
