Young singers, dancers and instrumental players in school years 6 – 13 (age 10 – 18) are invited to take part in the next Bree May weekend of Manx music workshops. The workshops are free of charge and will be held from 10am – 4pm on both Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 May at Douglas Youth Arts Centre with a concert for family and friends at the end.
Bree workshop weekends are very informal and great fun – as well as singing and playing lots of Manx music, students can opt to compose new songs and tunes, do Manx dancing or drama, perform in a band, dress up in crazy costumes (not compulsory!), and it's a great way to make new friends from other schools. If students already play classical music but would like to try out playing Manx music for the first time, then the Bree workshop is the ideal opportunity to do it!
The workshops are organised by Dr Chloe Woolley, Manx Music Specialist for the Manx Heritage Foundation. Bree also meet once a month for informal music sessions and performances, and it is validated as a learning destination for the Children’s University.
Application forms are available from Chloe at: manxmusicspecialist@mhf.org.im or tel. 695787. For more info, see www.manxmusic.com or www.breeiom.tk.
