Emergency Road Closure

by isleofman.com 3rd May 2012

At 10 am on Thursday 3rd May 2012,  an emergency road closure order has been imposed on the Tholt –Y- Will Road, Sulby. It  will be closed from the Bungalow (Mountain Road) to the junction with the Claddagh Road, Sulby. This is to allow the recovery of a crashed damaged car from a field off the switch back portion of the road, situated below Sulby Reservoir and above the former Tholt-y-Will Hotel. Specialist lifting equipment is required, the operation of which will block the carriageway at the site of the collision.

The car  being recovered was involved in a one vehicle collision in the early hours of Sunday the 29th of April. The driver, a 27yr old Onchan man, was alone at the time of the incident.

Sgt Andy Kneen from Ramsey Police said:

“We apologise for the inconvenience that this closure causes. I anticipate that the recovery operation will take approximately 3 hours. Although the road is closed preventing access to and from  the mountain road, residential  access to all houses  along the Sulby valley will be maintained, from the sulby village end. Officers from Ramsey are still investigating this collision  and would like to hear from anyone  who may have witnessed the collision. I am happy to say that the driver of the car, who was initially detained in hospital, has since been released following treatment”.
