Sean Drewry (13) played in two UK tournaments during the Easter holiday. The first event was the Holcomb Junior Open (Bury) and he had some good results in the U14 boys singles: qtr.final bt M Khan 6/0 6/1, s/final bt S Williams 6/0, 6/0 and in the Final he beat S Dail 6/1, 6/2. He also played in the U16s where in the qtr.final he beat J Hernon 6/1, 6/2 and in the s/final he beat D Jervis 6/1 2/6, (12/10) before losing in the Final 3/6 2/6 to C Duke. The other event in the Sutton Coldfield Junior Open U14 boys singles – results 1st round bt E Cooper 6/3 3/6 6/3 but lost in the 2nd round 4/6 6/4 3/6 to J Ashcroft. He also played in the U16 where he won his 1st round match against R Speed 6/3 6/3 but then lost in the next round 2/6 0/6 to the No. 1 seed A Bowen, who went on to win the event. The win in Bury has taken Sean in to the top 100 in GB U14.
Billy Harris (17)is still on his travels, this time in Bulgaria where he played in the Plovdiv Cup, an ITF Grade 3 event on clay. He was seeded 8 – results 1st round bt M Lanakiev (GER) 4/6 6/1 6/2; 2nd round bt J J Storme (BEL) 6/1 6/3; the qtr final was a long tough match bt no.3 seed A Mastrelia (ITA) 7/6(9) 2/6 6/4. In the s/final he lost 6/2 6/1 to P Circila no 7 seed (ROM) Playing in the doubles with his regular partner their results were: bt De Paepe/Greets (BEL) 6/2 7/5; qtr.final bt Khmladashvili (GERG)/Lomacki (POL) 7/5 7/6 (1) but lost in the s/final 6/7 6/2 (5/10) last week he was playing in an ITF Grade 3 event, the Kenana Cup in Haskovo, Bulgaria –results: Singles bt G Donev (BUL) 6/4 6/4, lost to P Ciorcila (ROM) 1/6 2/6. Doubles with Chris Pearce results 1ts round bt Markovic (SRB)/Tekavec (SLO) 6/3 6/2, qtr final bt Depaepe (BEL)/Geerts (BEL) 6/1 6/3, s/final bt Gajewski (POL)/Walkow (POL) but lost in the final 4/6 3/6 to Bergevi(SWE/Hansson (SWE). Now he is in Romania for an ITF Grade 2 tournament. Looking at the various nationalities plus different countries, I wonder if Billy will be multi-lingual when he eventually comes home. Now to Aswin Lizen (16) who is currently based in Barcelona, played in an ITF Grade 4 U18 tournament in Guadaloupe. He also had some good results qtr/final bt Christopher Grant 6/1 6/4, s/final bt Sunhay Bhat 6/4 6/2 but lost in the final 3/6 4/6 to Nicholas Crystal. This was his first ITF final and his ITF ranking is 603.
