A Little Suite of Manx Tunes – New String Quartet

by isleofman.com 3rd May 2012

Violin teacher and composer Roy L Baker has produced a fantastic new suite for string quartet based on Manx traditional melodies.

Commissioned by the Manx Heritage Foundation, A Little Suite of Manx Tunes consists of a chorale-style Smuggler’s Lullaby, a lively Mylecharaine’s March and a set of variations on The Sea Invocation. The movements can be performed either separately as individual pieces or together as a suite. The arrangements are designed to be suitable for school string quartets or string ensembles, and so the instrumental parts range from easy to more advanced level.

The sheet music for the suite is available to download for free from the LEARN pages of www.manxmusic.com. Separate instrumental parts can be provided on request by emailing Dr Chloe Woolley, Manx music specialist for the Manx Heritage Foundation: manxmusicspecialist@mhf.org.im.
