Chief Minister Allan Bell MHK will seek approval at the May sitting of Tynwald for the appointment of Trustees to oversee the work of Manx National Heritage for the next five years.
The Council of Ministers is proposing the appointment of eleven Trustees of the Manx Museum and National Trust, including eight new members, under a new appointment process introduced as part of changes to the body’s constitution.
For the first time opportunities to serve as Trustees have been opened up to the public at large, with more than 40 people applying in response to advertisements earlier this year. Membership was previously restricted to nominations from relevant organisations and local authorities.
The proposed appointments include a new Chairman of the Trustees, Mr Tony Pass, to succeed Mr Martin Moore, who is stepping down after 30 years distinguished service as a Trustee including serving as Chairman since 2002.
The Chief Minister commented: ‘The quantity and quality of applicants to serve as Trustees was truly impressive. The proposed Trustees reflect the broad functions of the Manx Museum and National Trust and offer a wide and valuable range of skills and experience from areas as diverse as archaeology, building conservation, motorsport and agriculture.’
Mr Bell added: ‘Martin Moore and the other outgoing Trustees deserve the thanks of the Manx nation for their many years of devoted service to the promotion of the Island’s culture and heritage.’
