About 3pm on Sunday 6 May 2012, a fatal road traffic collision occurred outside Bishopscourt Glen on the main Kirk Michael to Ballaugh Road.
The collision involved a blue Honda Jazz motor car heading towards Ballaugh. It has crossed into the opposite lane, colliding with a stationary red Honda Jazz before coming to rest against a stone wall. Emergency crews attended, and Fire and Rescue Service officers used cutting equipment to release the three female occupants of the Blue Honda, who were attended to by Paramedics. They were taken immediately to hospital, where sadly one of the passengers, an elderly lady from Ballaugh, later died. the occupants of the red car were shaken but uninjured.
The road remained closed until shortly afte 6pm whilst police carried out forensic collision investigation at the scene.
Inspector Derek Flint, who is leading the investigation said;
"Despite the efforts of the rescuers, one of the passengers has sadly lost their life. I understand the other two occupants of the vehicle remain in hospital at this time."
"Although we have already identified some witnesses, we are appealing for anyone that either saw the collision or noticed that Blue Honda Jazz travelling towards Ballaugh around 3pm to contact us at police headquarters. Their recollection will help us put the picture together of what has taken place. They can contact us on 631212, and we can make sure their information gets through to PC Steve Hall, who will be conducting the investigation for us"
"The family are are aware of the loss of their loved one. We are in contact with them and helping them through this difficult time."
The following additional details were released today (8th May):
Police are now able to name the lady who died as a result of the collision at Bishopscourt on the A3 Kirk Michael to Ballaugh Road, at 3pm on Sunday 6th May 2012.
The lady was Mrs Freda Starkey, aged 91 years, of Ballaugh.
The family said; ‘Mrs. Freda Starkey, age 91, was a well known member of the community in Ballaugh having lived in the village for over 30 years. She was a much loved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course through Eric Faragher’s of Onchan.’
Inspector Derek Flint, renewed his appeal for witnesses;
“ We are progressing with our investigation as to what happened with this collision. We are grateful to the witnesses who have already been in touch, and we will be speaking to them over the next few days. I am interested to make contact with the driver of a Silver Volkswagen car, who may have been behind the blue Honda Jazz immediately prior to the crash. If this was you, please do get in touch with us at Police headquarters as soon as you can.”

Police from Central Neighbourhood Policing Team are investigating an incident of criminal damage. The incident occurred in the Play Ground at the bottom of Heather Crescent, Pulrose, Douglas between 11:30 pm on 05/05/12 and 10:00am 06/05/12.
Blue line marking spray paint has been used to graffiti the play equipment and floor inside the playground. The spray paint has then been used to damage fencing and other property running along Heather Crescent and Hazel Crescent, Pulrose.
Police are looking to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or know the identities of anyone involved. Anyone who has any information is asked to contact Lord Street police station or speak to any police officer.
Anyone who has information about this incident should contact Police Headquarters on 631212. A reward may be payable as a result of your information.

Police are investigating damage caused to the front window of Capone’s Diner in Strand Street, Douglas. The damage occurred sometime between 6pm on Friday 4th May And the following morning.
Police would urge any person with information regarding the incident, or who may have witnessed any activity within the area that may have led to the damage, to contact Police.
Police would like to take this opportunity to remind people to remain vigilant and report any instances of damage or disorder.
Any person who may have any information regarding the incident can make contact with PC 256 Damien Cullivan or any other officer at Lord Street Police Station.

Police are requesting for witnesses regarding an incident which took place at about 9:45pm on Saturday 5th May 2012 outside the Sea Terminal in Douglas.
An altercation took place between two males in the middle of the roundabout directly outside of the Sea Terminal and Police would like to hear from any members of the public that may have witnessed this. One male was wearing a red Liverpool shirt and the second male was wearing a hooded top.
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC 299 Kyle Sayers of the Central Neighbourhood Policing Team at Lord Street Police Station on 631212.

Constable Ysanne Williamson from the Northern Neighbourhood Policing Team is investigating an incident of criminal damage to motor vehicles on Glen Road in Laxey. 5 cars in the lower Glen area have been scratched with a sharp implement along one side of each vehicle. The damage occurred overnight into Thursday 12th April 2012.
PC Williamson said “Police are appealing to anybody who may have been involved in, or seen the incident to contact Ramsey Police Station on 812234 .”
