Crossroads Care has entered the Charity Retail Association’s Choose Charity Shop Campaign, which starts on Monday 14th May 2012.
Over 6,000 shops take part in the national campaign to encourage good practice and public awareness of charity shops throughout the UK.
Crossroads Care has been an overseas member of the Charity Retail Association for the last 4 years but this will be the first time entering the WOW! Factor Awards for the best shop.
Crossroads Care attribute much of their four thriving charity shops success to the Charity Retail Association who provide regular networking activities, benchmarking and consumer reports and code of conduct that has advised Crossroads on how to stand out in the charity retail market.
Crossroads Care operate four charity shops in Douglas including a specialist Formal Wear and Home Interiors and Baby World Shop that sell commission items as well as taking donations.
Crossroads Care charity shops also prevent an estimated 160,000 tonnes of textiles and furniture going to landfill each year. Crossroads Care recycles clothing and furniture which would otherwise be thrown away and are paid for the materials they pass on.
It is Crossroads Care Formal Wear Shop in Victoria Street that has been nominated for the award. Crossroads’ Formal Wear Shop specialises in high quality donated formal clothing suited to cruises, proms and special occasions.
To celebrate the occasion, the Shop’s widow has been dressed in a nautical theme in keeping with the current buzz surrounding Titanic 100th anniversary, visiting cruise liners and the recent ‘Round the Island’ yacht race.
The Award will be judged by delegates at the Charity Retail Annual Conference in July 2012 where the winners for best shop and other sub categories including window display will be announced.
