Isle of Man Archery Club Report

by isleofman.com 15th May 2012

This week the Manx weather forced archers to have a short metric instead of the scheduled Fita round due to the strong winds.   The round had to be cut due to a safety issue with only six archer shooting this round as other archers were off Island competing, on holiday or being sub-contracted out to another sport that was on that same weekend.

Congratulations to Aalin George who was competing in Porec, Croatia in the European Junior Cup and along with her team mates Daisy Clark and Marsie Henderson-Hirst who were runners-up in the cadet women's division, losing their final to host nation Croatia 224-217 and came home with silver.

Back home for the compound division target size have changed this season to only have a five scoring zone from 10 – 6 so all archers achieve personal best in the gents compound.   Peter Mumford and Colin Moore put in yet another great battle only for Mumford  to have a slender four point lead at the halfway stage.   Moore tried to overhaul the deficit only Mumford push on and edged out a further fifteen point to extend his lead to nineteen points at the end.

In the ladies compound division Sarah Rigby showed yet another dominant display of archery to put in a twenty point advantage over Joy Gough after the third dozen which put Gough at a slight disadvantage that she just couldn’t pull back.  In the gents recurve father and son David and Rhys Moore did battle with the David taking the upper hand over his son and showed a dominant display at the end Rhys said “ If I let him win I get a better allowance and the home life is easier”.
