by isleofman.com 16th May 2012

The Department of Economic Development’s Training Division is pleased to announce the success of its latest training programme for young people who find themselves Not in Employment, Education or Training (NEET).  The course was held in Ramsey, with the assistance of Ramsey Commissioners and Youth Centre.

The four week course, delivered by Angelena Boden and Geoff Le Page of Transforming Training,is designed to boost confidence, provide knowledge and experience of the world of work and prepare students, all aged between 16 and 24, for future employment.

To conclude the course the students took part in a ‘Hidden Talents’ show which was attended by local business owners from Ramsey, and the surrounding area, who have had close involvement with the students throughout the Programme.  The panel of judges consisted of local business leaders including Brian Kelly, Mann Link Travel; Nigel Watson, Luviair and Chris Blatcher, Ramsey Chamber of Commerce/JAC Stores.

The group of seven candidates, Adam Porter, Andrew Preston, Caitlin Bennett, Euan Christian, Hannah Marsh, Jason Crowe and Lesley Watterson, were able to showcase the skills and development they have achieved over the course of the Programme.  They will now undertake a six week training work placement, where they can put their new skills into practice.

Tony Wild MHK, Political Member for the Department of Economic Development, said:

‘The Department of Economic Development’s aim is to reduce the number of young people who are NEET in the Isle of Man and I hope these young adults will continue to benefit from the training opportunities this short course has provided.

‘I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the sponsors from our local business community for their enthusiasm in helping the students to secure future employment and I wish them every success for the future.’
