Douglas Borough Council will join with communities across the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, the Commonwealth and UK Overseas Territories to light a beacon on Monday June 4th to mark Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The beacon will be situated on the tower of St Ninian’s church and lit at 10.21pm by Douglas Mayor David Ashford accompanied by the Archdeacon, Canon Andrew Brown. They will be joined by members of the Council, officers and invited guests in celebrations that will include an address from the Mayor and music from Douglas Town Band.
Council leader David Christian said: ‘The Council is proud to be playing its part in commemorating Her Majesty the Queen’s 60 years of selfless service to the Crown. It is a privilege to be able to contribute to this unique occasion when we celebrate the Queen, Lord of Man’s accession to the throne 60 years ago. This is an historical event we are pleased to be sharing with nations across the world.’
A network of more than 4000 beacons around the world is expected to be lit between 10pm and 10.30pm on June 4th 2012.
