The Chrystals Senior Open made a good start at the weekend with matches completed in all categories, this time being run on the old ratings format.

This meant that at least in the men’s singles entries were quite good, with stronger players in the top group awaiting qualifiers from a lower rating qualifier competition.

The Harris family turned out in force with Billy and siblings Joe and Katie plus dad, Geoff all taking part.

Some of the 12 – 14 year old juniors played in their own event as well as the men’s singles, one being Calvin Smith (13) who beat Bryan Sharp (78) – a bit of an age gap!

Nice to see Rosie Manuja has returned to the island’s the tennis scene.

Play continues throughout the week with Finals Day on Sunday when the prizes will be presented by Shane Magee, on behalf of the sponsors, Chrystals Estate Agents. There should be some very good matches and spectators are welcome. A buffet tea will be provided following the presentation at approximately 4pm.

A Mini Tennis competition was run alongside the main event and completed over the first weekend. Some of the girls played in the boys events as well as their own, which is allowed in Mini Tennis.
