Isle of Man Archery Club Report

by isleofman.com 21st May 2012

This week archers tackle the double Fita 70 for the recurve archers and the new Fita 50 for the compound archers run as a double, unfortunately the recurve archers only competed as a single round with the lovely Manx sun showing up for the first time since the beginning of April but still the south westerly winds were testing everyone on the shooting line.

There were six personal best achieved this week three coming from the compound discipline with this being a new double round for some the archers concerned are Colin Moore, Peter Mumford and Joy Gough, and the other three came from the recurve ranks the archers concerned where Ethan Moore, Rob Lott and Karen Lott this was the first time these archers have competed at this distance and the score achieved were fantastic.

In the gents compound the west verses east battle resumed between Colin Moore” The apprentice” and Peter Mumford “ The Master” Mumford got of the marks quick to edge out a slender two point lead after the first dozen only for Moore to come back and level the scores and put Mumford under pressure, the pressure showed and Mumford send and arrow off the target face after the lunch break  Moore seen his chance and pilled the pressure on again and Mumford sends another arrow wide but tried to pull back but the thirteen point lead Moore has he wasn’t going to let it go and at the end the apprentice got one over the Master to take the top spot on the podium.

In the Ladies compound once again the Isle of Man Bank sports woman of the year Aalin George was battling it out with Sarah Rigby all started well for Rigby pulling out a seven point lead after the first dozen George fort back to hold a slender four point lead at the lunchtime break, After which Rigby just couldn’t match George and was forced to retire with a recurring injury letting George take the last dozen easy to hit the top step of the podium and for Joy Gough nip the runners up spot and Rigby pick up the last spot on the podium.

As for the recurve archers all deciding that the weather was to good to shoot the full Double round and shot a single only in the gents Tony Hartley hit the top spot again with young gun Ethan Moore nipping at his quiver and the ever improving Rob Lott picking up the last spot on the podium, only one lady competed Karen Lott this was the first time she shot this round and put in a fantastic round.

The Junior archers had a good turn out this week with newbie Rhys Moore showing a dominant display of archery to secure another top spot with Adam Wright chasing at his feet while Bradley Layton chased them all the way to finish only thirteen points behind to take the last step on the podium.
