Equiom’s Financial Controller, Dan Cadamy was on the winning ‘Yellow’ team of the 2012 Manx Executive Challenge (MEC).
The MEC offers individuals the opportunity to demonstrate their senior management potential by working in a team to address an issue which is topical, relevant and of strategic importance to the Isle of Man. It is held every two years and is organised by the Chartered Management Institute’s Isle of Man Branch in partnership with the private and public sectors.
The Challenge this year was ‘How Does the Isle of Man Lead?’ The Yellow Team decided to investigate the burgeoning on-Island sector of Clean Technology as a way forward in the task. Made up of six people from different companies across the Isle of Man, the team succeeded in their task of identifying ways to develop the green sector and aiding its growth and development on the Island.
Over the past nine months Dan has hosted many evening meetings of the Yellow Team at Equiom's offices where they researched the challenge they had been given, developing not only solutions on how to make the Island greener but a significant means of funding the investment required into the development of the Clean Technology Sector, which, in the current financially challenging times, made the team's proposition stand out. Their unique proposition would make use of the Island’s natural resources whilst also demonstrating an increasing use of clean fuels, potentially leading to a Green Culture change in the Isle of Man.
The Yellow Team presented their vision for an ‘Isle of Man Timber Bond’ providing realistic and practical solutions to issues facing the Isle of Man today in front of an invited audience of Government Ministers and business leaders.
Commenting on his team’s success Dan said: “The Manx Executive Challenge has been exactly that - a challenge. However, it has been a real pleasure to work with people whom I would not have otherwise met, and against other teams made up of talented individuals, who all presented interesting and compelling ideas. We hope the Yellow Team's proposals will be taken forward for the benefit of everyone on our Island”.
Jon McGowan, Chairman of the judging panel, particularly singled out the unique funding element of the Yellow Team's proposition. Dan, along with his winning Yellow Team members, received the Manx Executive Challenge Trophy for 2012 from His Excellency, Mr Adam Wood at the Mount Murray Hotel on Monday May 14th.
